New double taxation treaty between the CR and Qatar
On 21 June 2022, the government of the Czech Republic and the government of the state of Qatar signed the Agreement for the elimination of double taxation with respect to taxes on income and for the prevention of tax evasion and avoidance.
The Minister of Finance Zbyněk Stanjura signed the agreement on behalf of the Czech side and the Minister of Finance Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari signed on behalf of Qatar. The standard legislative process will now take place in both countries which will lead to the agreement entering into force and the following implementation of it in real life. Both ministers also agreed that the countries should conclude an Investment protection agreement which could be signed by the end of 2022.
The new agreement will clarify clearly which income is taxable in which country, it will also strengthen the legal position of Czech entities doing business in Qatar and vice versa. Qatar is the fourth most important market for Czech exporters in the Middle East, as the Czech minister said. Concluding the agreement means a stronger legal position for investors and other tax subjects in both countries, it also supports new development of economic relations with Qatar.
Currently, the Czech Republic has concluded 93 similar agreements that are beneficial not only to the Czech entrepreneurs but to the whole country.
